Granite Sealing Service specializes in sealing granite kitchen countertops in the Chicago metro area. My name is Phil Albee, and I've been in the stone business since 1989.

I came into the stone biz as an apprentice with a small company that specialized in granite sculptural items and tops. My prior background included sales and service, so soon I was doing sales, and had the company focused on a profitable and largely untapped new niche market - kitchen countertops.

One of the first things I wanted to know about this new product, was how my customers were to maintain it. After all, this was a high-ticket item, and folks needed to know how to keep it looking nice. I was surprised to find that even very good fabricators and installers generally didn't know anything about preventive or routine maintenance. Worse yet, I was advised to avoid or downplay the topic, and simply tell people that granite is so hard they didn't need to worry about a thing! Fortunately, that first company had a good conscience, and we used to seal the tops - first with a masonry/wood sealer, then with a specially formulated stone sealer when one became available to the U.S. market.

It was a small company, and in addition to selling I drove truck, measured, cut, polished, installed jobs. I was often the first and last company person customers saw, and I took their satisfaction with us personally. I also understood that healthy referral business grew out of integrity, which to me meant - and still means - treating my customers the way I'd want to be treated.
